The annual Christmas party was very popular this year, the hall filled with members and visitors to hear an energetic talk from Fergus about the importance of contrast in colour and form in the gardens at Great Dixter. His message at the beginning was to ignore the “good taste brigade” and do your own thing in the garden…but if you are a member of the “good taste brigade” that’s all right too. The talk was illustrated with slides covering a huge range of planting ideas and combinations, giving members plenty of food for thought. Speaking of food, the spread that followed was simply enormous. Many thanks go to all those members who contributed to the smorgasbord, those who kindly made floral table decorations and of course to the Committee, who organised the party and provided the drinks.
