One of our Herts HPS members, Renata Hume, is opening her garden for the NGS this weekend. This is a gem of a garden, designed as a sequence of spaces dotted with ancient fruit trees and comprehensively planted with unusual perennials providing lots of spring colour. There is sense of intimacy throughout, enhanced by charming details and hidden surprises. The photos below were taken last night in the evening sun; the garden is open today (May 17th) from 9am – 12pm, and tomorrow (Sunday) from 2pm to 5pm. Details of the garden are on her NGS page and your satnav can get you there by navigating to 10 Cross Street, SG6 4UD. Renata will also be opening her garden for the Herts HPS on the 7th of September from 2pm to 5pm, mentioned on our Programme page.
Renata, what is the beautiful tree with red blossom? Is it hawthorn? Your garden looks stunning – I wish I had had the time to come!
Diana, thank you for your comment. Yes, the tree is a hawthorn Crataegus laevigata ‘Paul’s Scarlet’.
