And so to our final meeting of this season of talks, this Saturday, 2nd April, at 2pm, when John Amand, managing director of Jacques Amand International Ltd, will be speaking on ‘Tulips, Old and New’.
For over 70 years, Jacques Amand has offered flowering bulbs of many varieties to discerning gardeners. The company began as a flower shop in the Strand when Jean Jacques Amand arrived from the Netherlands in 1927. Since then the company, based at Stanmore in Middlesex, has grown to become a major supplier of bulbs, and is renowned for the diversity and quality of bulbs offered to customers in many countries. They exhibit at many shows around the UK, including the Chelsea Flower Show, where they have won twenty-nine Gold Medals for their displays of unusual bulbs and plants.

Our next meeting is this coming Saturday, 5th March at 2pm, when our speaker will be Colin Moat of Pineview Plants. Colin’s talk, ‘Fifty Greys of Shade’, will offer valuable advice on a variety of plants that tolerate and even thrive in different levels of shade. Every gardener has a difficult, shady area in their garden and I’m sure you won’t want to miss this chance to find out how to tackle it.
Colin has been a member of the HPS for over twenty years, and twice a trustee. Now a retired Independent Financial Adviser, he says he is able to fulfill his ambition of running Pineview Nursery properly, which he had been attempting to do for the previous fifteen years. This year he co-ordinated the HPS Kent Group Chelsea display. Plants for sale.
