Our annual plant sale takes place on Saturday 3rd of June from 10am to 12 noon at the URC Church Hall in St Albans. Full address:
United Reformed Church Hall, Homewood Rd, St Albans, AL1 4BH
On the Friday night (2nd June) from 6pm to 9pm volunteers are required to help sort and price the plants. Members with plants to donate should deliver them to the URC Hall at the same time. Do please make sure that your plants are labelled!
The BBC has filmed a really excellent, long and detailed piece about the Hardy Plant Society, and the background of how the Worcestershire group came to be doing their stand ’60 Plants for 60 years’.
If you missed it, you can catch it on iPlayer: Chelsea Flower Show BBC2 on Thursday 25th May, 8pm programme. The HPS Worcester Group is on at approx. 8.40 after Sarah Eberle talking about her Barcelona garden.
As Heather has said: “It is the best TV coverage I think I’ve ever seen about HPS, wonderful publicity, and made me feel really proud to belong to such a brilliant society! It truly got the message over of what a warm, friendly, plant obsessed but inclusive society we are. John and all the Worcester group team came over wonderfully well and are to be congratulated on such a great effort”.
10 gardens will be open this year, including those of 2 members: Sue Kellard’s Cottage/Woodland garden at Kilnwood Lodge (with Pimms!) and Meta and Hugh Reeves’ garden of ‘rooms’ incl. a kitchen garden at Crunnells Green House.
Plant Stall on the Green and Flower Festival in the small Arts & Crafts church of St Martin. Teas in the Village Hall. Barbeque on the Green from 12 noon.
Map supplied on admission. Entry £5.00 (children free). Free parking.
Post code SG4 7RU. Contact 01462-456567 (Meta)
As part of the Hardy Plant Society Members’ Gardens Open to celebrate its 60th Anniversary, Herts group member Leonora Vaughan’s lovely garden is open next Sunday 21st May from 2 – 5.30pm. 45 Oakridge Avenue, Radlett, Herts WD7 8EW, admission £4 including a cream tea, tel 01923 854650
Do come and bring family and friends!
The garden has been redesigned and replanted over the past ten years and backs onto a working farm. The planting has been chosen to combine the use of colour with prominence given to dark foliage. The garden is in two halves divided by sleepers and dominated by a huge Foxglove tree.
Park in road. Gravel driveway around to a side gate entrance to garden.
