Dianne Nichol-Brown: “Barking up the Wrong Tree”
Dianne and her husband run Polemonium Plantery in County Durham and hold three national collections: of Polemoniaceae, Fragaria vesca and Hakonechloa.
If you think you do not have room for a tree in your garden then Dianne might persuade you differently. She will talk about suitable varieties and those to avoid. www.polemonium.co.uk
The meeting starts at 2pm at the Wheathampstead Memorial Hall on Marford Rd. AL4 8AY.
John Rowe is kindly hosting this year’s event at:
Fox Meadow, Water End Road, Potten End, Berkhamsted HP4 2SH
Tel 01442 862619 / 07816654982
Refreshments will be available
There is no obligation to bring any seedlings with you – just bring some plant labels so that you can note what you are taking away.
Please also consider growing on some of the seedlings for sale at the monthly meetings or at the Grand Plant Sale on 2nd June.
If you are coming from Berkhamsted you will pass Olivers Close. The drive leading to Fox Meadow is between 39 and 41 Water End Road. There are two white notices either side of the drive. These say Hollybush Glen and Fox Meadow. Opposite the drive is a footpath with a green fingerpost. Fox Meadow is at the bottom of this drive.
There is parking and one can turn round. Parking may also be available on the drive of the neighbours at Hollybush Glen. Obviously, if coming from the other way up Potten End Hill, if you get to Olivers Close you will have passed the drive.
Who would imagine that on this, the first day of spring, we are contacting you all to let you know that the speakers have cancelled for this Saturday afternoon’s meeting March 3rd. In view of this and the inclement weather the committee have decided to cancel the meeting completely. Many apologies to you all. (We hope to rebook them for next year.)
Those members who were expecting to collect your newsletter will have it sent by post as soon as possible.
Coach trip forms will be available at the next meeting on the 7th April, but for preference would you be good enough to download a form and send it to Maggie Lacey.
We look forward to seeing you in March for the Seedling Swap (details in the newsletter ) and on April 7th for “Barking up the Wrong Tree “ with Dianne Nichol-Brown.
Best wishes and keep warm.
